Thursday, November 26, 2009
A sponsored walk organised by the staff of Kirea, Rasharkin & Dunloy Credit Union brought people from all walks of life together to raise funds for the renovation of St Patrick's Church of Ireland in Kilrea.
The walk. which attracted a large crowd, started off at the Credit Union offices and was led by Jeremy Mitchell of the BBC. Tea was provided afterwards afterwards in St Patrick's Church Hall.
The Credit Union tresurer John Dallat MLA paid tribute to the credit union staff and the manager Claire Doherty for their hard work which made the event such a success.
A Special thanks to the following for their generosity in making this event possible, Adrian from the PSNI, Johnston Printing Kilrea, The Country Bakery (Portglenone), Joe Dunseath (Rasharkin), Stevenson's MACE (Kilrea), Bells CostCutters (Klirea), Bradleys SPAR (Kilrea) and not least those who served the lovelycup of tea for everyone after the walk.
He also thanked everyone else who helped in any way to make the event the success that it was, including those who walked and who donated sponsorship. John Dallat expressed the hope that the sponsored walk could become an annual event in the future which would support other deserving causes.
In his concluding remarks he said ‘The people of Kilrea can be very proud that they support each other. The credit union is very pleased that the parishioners of St Patrick are agreed to the sponsored walk to boost their renovation fund. KRD Credit Union and St Patrick's have been good neighbours for many years and the church is an important part of the architecture of Kilrea.
Thanks was returned by Robbie Campbell on behalf of St Patrick's congregation.
